How it works
MIAA is a cloud-based app. We handle data securely on cloud-based platforms. Files are typically encrypted and maintained by silo for each user.
Follow these easy steps to use MIAA
Click the Signup button at the top of this page to sign up. Fill in the required details and click Register.
Please check the inbox of your email for verification link. Check the spam / junk emails if not found.
Log in to your account after successful verification.
Create a list of program participants using the provided template. We recommend at least 75 participants to ensure statistical validity in your results.
Any list of program participants you share will need to have personally identifiable information (PII). Magnolia will only use the PII to work with our data partners to source data for analysis purposes. You must have and attest to having permission to share the PII of your program participants on behalf of your organization.
Upload your participant list with first and last name and at least one other field, such as email address, phone number or zip code to our secure, cloud-based platform.
Once uploaded, the file name will appear at the top, confirming successful upload.
Note, that MIAA will change your file name. You can now see the file at the bottom of your screen, along with the upload date.
In 2-3 weeks, MIAA will email you confirming that your list can be tracked over time and against a matched comparison group. Additionally, you’ll get a peek at baseline data, including match rate and household income. To proceed, you’ll click on the link in the email to pay the annual subscription fee.
Three weeks after each quarter ends, you’ll receive an email with a link to view your impact report. Your quarterly reports will provide aggregated statistics on the household income of your program participants.
The report will also contain aggregated income data for your comparison group.

1. Support Services
Yes. We offer webinars and can join Zoom or in-person meetings to introduce MIAA and answer questions.
Yes. This service is available outside of the standard MIAA offering. We provide short paid consultations to help you determine the most effective segments for using MIAA.
We offer a free half-hour consultation to discuss your needs.
After you upload a list, we share the fill rates on tracking metrics (Fill rate is the proportion of individuals on the list for whom we are able to obtain data), and provide our view on whether tracking the population is viable. You decide whether to proceed with mobility tracking.
We also offer additional virtual consultations for MIAA, as discussed in section 4.
Yes. We are happy to work with your program evaluation team to integrate MIAA into the overall analyses.
We do not have context on your program and therefore cannot comment on the specific results. However, we can address any data or reporting anomalies.

2. Data, methodology, and technology
The third-party databases have a wide range of information available. Within the financial domain, metrics such as household income, net worth, and those relating to the use of credit and investment products are available. Currently, MIAA utilizes household income and household net worth as outcome metrics. We are actively studying the need and viability of other metrics.
We also receive demographic information such as gender and age.
We receive data at the individual level. However, some metrics are reported at the household level, e.g., household income and household net worth for each individual.
No. At this time, we are not able to support look-back data.
MIAA provides quarterly reports after the baseline feasibility assessment.
We have not backtested the data ourselves and welcome partners who might have independent data to do their own testing.
The focus with MIAA is on change over time, rather than the estimates at each time point. Hence the impact of systematic biases in point estimates is minimized.
We can only source data for individuals 18 and older.
Yes. You can upload two lists, one for the treatment and one for the control population.
Matching is based on first, last name, and email. If the email is unavailable, the phone number is used.
Fill rates depend upon the ability to identify and match individuals in our database and the availability of the metric for a given individual, which can vary across populations. For feasibility purposes, we require a minimum fill rate of 60%.
Magnolia does not share or report individual-level
information. We receive individual-level data that is analyzed and aggregated for reporting.
If an organization needs individual-level data, it can create a direct relationship with the data provider.
Yes. Each program or cohort can be uploaded as a separate list.
MIAA will enhance the ability of programs whose outcomes revolve around economic mobility. The range is broad; examples include workforce training, inclusive financial services, financial literacy, career guidance, guaranteed
income, and affordable housing. MIAA typically needs a minimum of 75 individuals to assess and track mobility.
MIAA can also be applied to place-based interventions to compare specific communities against their neighborhoods.
We currently partner with Acxiom and are in discussions with additional data providers.
No, we do not offer an API at this time. You can securely upload a list, and we will email a link to your reports every quarter.
3. Privacy and confidentiality
We take privacy, confidentiality, and data security seriously.
- We typically share the name, email address, and the general geography, e.g., the city in which the program
participants are based. - No program-related data is shared with any third party.
- No social security numbers, birthdates, or exact addresses are shared.
We use encryption at all stages to ensure that access to personally identifiable information is highly secure and controlled.
- Encryption at Rest: We use a secure cloud-based system with AES-256 Server Side Encryption.
- Encryption in Transit: Any files you upload are sent over TLS-encrypted network channels.
- All transmissions to and from third parties use asymmetric encryption using RSA 2048 key pairs.
We do not market or enable the use of the data for any marketing purposes.
We support all of the above use cases.
Yes. We require you to attest to having permission to share any information that is uploaded to MIAA.
If you do not have the requisite data sharing permissions and need to seek them, we can collect and store permissions on your behalf. For example, we can integrate opt-in or opt-out options for data sharing along with the required legal language.

MIAA analyses with a comprehensive evaluation plan. - Report interpretations and integration: Magnolia can provide in-depth consultation to assist with the interpretation of MIAA in the context of broader evaluation results.
Magnolia provides end-to-end program evaluation services – developing outcome metrics, working with administrative
and program data, creating and administering participant surveys, and conducting interviews and focus groups. An advantage is that the MIAA approach is integrated into this
process, and MIAA outcomes can be assessed more rigorously in the context of other participant-level data.

5. Pricing and contracting
Our white paper lays out our methodology that can be replicated. Magnolia has also built out the infrastructure and relationships necessary to offer MIAA as a turnkey service to an institution. With a subscription for MIAA, Magnolia sources and analyzes data, and provides reports on an ongoing basis.
